Log furniture making question

I am thinking about getting a (cheaper) set of tools for tenon joint cutting, just to tinker a bit and make some stuff for around the cabin. There is a sale right now on this set:

LumberJack Tools HSK2 Home Series 2-Piece Starter Kit (just says 1 and 2, note sure if that is inches...) $130

or else a one size 1.5" kit $65

What would be the best size for average stuff? - end tables, maybe some benches around firepit, heck might even try a barstool or three. If I can do it okay, maybe a kitchen/dining table some day.

Also, are these too cheap of bits even for my limited use?

Last question - for metro area, or even northeast of brainerd, what are good log supply shops? Thanks for any info. I have always wanted to learn to do this, and wife just told me I should... smile I might have more questions later about drills or other related stuff. I have 1/2 drills (18v and electric) and a decent drill press.

If I was making log furniture I would look into Logman Log Furniture Tenon Maker. It is much faster then the pencil sharpener type and cost less too if you add up and the different sizes. I think Rockler also makes a router style tenon cutter

Here is a video on it

Thanks very much for the link! I like the Logman products, and already have router, so this might be a better and more versatile way to go. Better bang for the buck I think, even though more up front cost.

I've wanted to build log furniture for some time now, but the tenon makers were always so expensive. The Logman looks like just the ticket. What kind of router should a person get? What are some good log-making books for plans, etc.? Good router learning book?
