Broken GPS

givetoget

Question

Broke the glass on my gps. Had it front pocket of vexilar bibs and was leaning over the rack on sled and must of leaned to hard, when I pulled it out it was shattered. Its a Oregon 450T, I get the picture and lighted back round that's fine, the touch screen wont react when touched. Is there a way to fix these, has anyone been there done that.

I am going to contact Garmin also but looking for some real world first hand experiances.

Thanks

Search on google for the following (without the quotes)

"screen replacement oregon 450"

You will find plenty of screen replacement options for roughly $17-$20. Ebaay and plenty of other repair parts stores. Then, replace the screen by following the directions in the video here:

just heads up that garmin is great place to deal with issues with your devices. I had a nuvii once that got black death once right before a trip. called them for advive and they shipped one out to me so I would have it for my trip. Another time the MIL did something with hers tried everything I could do with it. Called and they said they could swap it out for brand new one that was 160 with trade for hers for 90 bucks with shipping. So with that they got customer for life.

The exact thing happened to me last week on my Oregon...I contacted Garmin and if its out of warranty its $100 flat rate to fix it...So I ordered a new screen for $17 and I'm going to switch it when it arrives...The only screens I could find were in China so shipping will take a while..
