Spark plug threads?

wdgold

Question

I have a 1991 mariner 100hp with a stripped spark plug hole. From what I understand it is wise to use same material insert as the head, in this case aluminum for heat transfer reasons. Looking to do it myself any ideas would be appreciated.

I've blown out a spark plug once before and when I went to the shop to get parts the guy told me helicoils will work but in his 40 years of experience they don't hold up as well and may eventually blow out as well. He said best solution is to replace the head. I was able to find a used head for $20 and was much easier than trying replace the threads.
