bmc
4 of us headed up to Kakagi earlier in the week. Conditions were less than ideal to say the least. Below zero temps, strong to howling winds, deep snow (2' plus), and slush pockets. Instead of running and gunning, we set up portables on proven spots and hunkered down.We fished 3.5 days and could only manage 3 trout. We had a couple other fish on and a few "bumps" on our lures. We graphed fish every day, but they were sluggish to say the least. Even a big frozen golden shiner on a plain hook on the bottom would only get "sniffed".I washed a majority of the lures in my tackle box and the only bite I had was on a gold/orange crocodile spoon w/ a glow twister tail. The trusty white tube is what produced the 3 fish in our group. With the cold and slush, our sleds iced up so bad on Wed. night that if we planned on fishing on Thursday, we wouldn't have been able to.We avoided getting stuck by sending a "scout" sled into potential fishing spots and having that person zip around the spot a few times to see if there was slush or not. We even found slush pockets in big wide open areas of the lake, like north of Indian Point.Still a great trip with great company, good food, adult beverages, and a TON of laughs.Looking forward to maybe heading up there this summer and trying an open water trip.Brian
