Garmin 62s on sale at Cabela's for $199 starting 2/27

Normally $399, the sale started today. I talked with one of the reps at the Owatanna store on Tuesday and he gave me the heads-up then. He said they've got 1100 units in their warehouse! lol

I just ordered mine and can't wait to have a handheld again since my H2O stopped acquiring last year. The Navionics app on my phone just does not cut it IMO.

Sounds as though I'll be able to plug in my old LM chip from the H2O right into the SD slot on this one. From my research over the past year or so, it sounds like the 62s is one of the better handhelds for ice fishermen due to durability, external antenna, compact, etc

Posted the shortcut to cabelas here

Thats a smokin' deal on a 62s, I just saw that in the flyer.

I'm not sure about the lakemaster working in the Garmin, give it a shot and let us know if it works but I'm pretty sure it had to be a Garmin branded Lakemaster chip.

Run Energizer Advanced Lithium's,they'll give you the best battery life.

I don't think the H2O ship will work with the Garmins, even if you are able to plug it in. They sell separate cards with the same lake coverage for Garmin, Humminbird, and Lowrance.

That is a great price, and I already have a Garmin etrex w/ a chip. FYI this one has a built-in compass and altimeter so it is one of their better ones, although I'd still like a larger screen. Might be worth a run down there...

...the etrex 30 has compass / altimeter wink

And a smaller screen than the 62s, plus it costs $100 more.

My old etrex Vista Cx has a compass and altimeter, but I get sick of squinting. (1st world problems) wink

electronic compass is nice, as anyone without one will tell you... you have to be moving to get a proper bearing. My 60cx doesn't have one. I believe all models in the 62 series have a compass.

altimeter? yeah, who cares. you planning on climbing to the summit of buck hill or something?

The 60Cx is getting replaced tonight wink

Well, you can't get the magnetic compass without the altimeter, soooo..... use it or not it is there. It is a barometric altimeter so you can get a barometric history plot too. See if it is rising or falling or whatnot. I have referenced it before.

Quick update. I spoke with a Garmin rep yesterday, who was really nice and helpful btw and after some time, told me he couldn't confirm/deny whether my old LM chip would work (probably a 06 or 07 chip).

He suggested the Upper Midwest Fishing Guide SD card. They include a list of every lake it covers in the midwest, by state. Needless to say, after seeing all my favorite MN & WI bodies of water included AND that some of them are in HD, I also pulled the trigger on the new chip.

Hope to get it in time for my 3/7-3/9 trip to LOTW so I can report back my initial impressions. Can't tell you how excited I am to leave my phone in my pocket and NOT rely on the darn Navionics App. Take nothing away from it given it's $10, but man, is it frustrating to use in general.

I have a 62s, picked it up around Thansgiving for 199.99 early Christmas for myself. It does have a altimeter and in settings I can find field to change labeled pressure trending. Is there a way to show this trending?

So I go and get one of these units after reading reviews here and about the product. Cabelas has no chip for the unit. Dude says I have to get it through garmin and its called "north central region in hd", its 149$. He says they no longer make just state only chips. Checked out the chip mentioned above. ? is what chip will work better for me, Mostly fish just mn lakes. A little help would be great. Thanks

Dude at Cabelas is a knucklehead.

He was thinking a Navionics chip which does not work in the Garmins.

What you want to look for is the GARMIN Upper Midwest Fishing Guide, as mentioned above, Amazon has them, Reeds does too, if you have a Scheels nearby, I'm sure they have it also.

Chip should cost you about $110 max, less if you shop around.

I see they don't have a download for the UMWFG, you can buy a DVD but I would stick with the MicroSD card if you have the 62s.

I posted a link to the Garmin link to buy said chip about 3/4 down page one of this thread. It's $99 there and you can either buy the SD card and they'll ship for free or you can download it.

Also as mentioned prior in this thread, it's available elsewhere, apparently at the big river site for $75.

HMMM.....

I don't see the download option AND I also see they have moved this chip to the DISCONTINUED list ( look in the upper left of the image )

Something better / updated on the way? Guess we'll have to stay tuned!

Has anyone used the chip mentioned above? I guess i dont want lake maps or 3ft contours, if something new like 1ft contours is coming out soon.
