Otter lodge in 6'4" ram box

Does anyone put an otter lodge in your 6'4" ram box? I have. 6'6" chevy box now and its a tight fit but I have a bulky bed liner installed that shrinks the box by 1-2". The listed dimensions of the magnum sled is 75" so it should fit in a 76" box but these things dont always work out.

I could barely fit mine in the 2004 ram with the short box, but it required a lot of force to close the tailgate. If everything was fully tucked in and I didn't have my travel cover on the sled and I didn't have the bedliner, it would probably have been slightly easier. As it was, it was annoyingly hard to close, enough so that I just chose to drive with the house sort of crooked and the lip up on top of the tailgate, rather than worrying about breaking stuff.

Yeah I think if I remember correctly, the box is only like 6 foot 3.7 inches, so not a lot to spare. It fits, and depending the amount of time you want to spend pulling the tent in as much as possible so there's no additional hanging out, etc.... you won't have a problem. But, for me it was just easier to lift the rear of the sled, shut the tailgate, and set the sled lip on top of the tailgate.

Just got rid of the ram and got a used suburban, so from now on I will be leaving the lodge on the snowmobile trailer.

Depends on your topper, but I think so. I'm not a topper expert but the ones I've seen have the glass basically flush with the very rear part of the tailgate, and the lodge definitely didn't stick out past that. You'll be good to go.

As I said, mine would close with the sled in the bottom of the bed, but it was just a really tight fit. If you're going to leave it in there between trips, you might end up just spending the extra couple minutes getting the tarp tucked in the sides of the sled just right so that it closes more easily. Take the travel cover off since it's under a topper anyway, and you already make it less tight....

I see the "will it fit my truck?" question quite a bit and have asked it my self. It would be nice to have a Sticky on the top of the page on what will fit what truck from people that actually have the house and truck. We could add as much info as possible like does it fit with a tonneau closed and what brand of Tonneau, box liner or not, hyfax installed or not. Just an idea.

I have a dodge Dakota and my lodge fits in the back. The new thermal otters have a little bit more bulk that push out the sides but it still fits, its tight but it fits.

Yeah forgot to mention that I have the thermal, that's part of what makes it tight. The old non-thermal one fit much easier.

In my 03' Ram short box with a Leer topper I had put a few 2x4's in the bed up by the cab so it would raise the front of the house up over the top edge of the bed. I just built a small ramp type contraption and it worked fine. It would not fit with the topper on there and not raising it.

Not to hijack the thread but I was wondering the same about an otter thermal pro cabin fitting in a ram 5'7" box. Anyone have any experience with that? The house fits with not much room to spare in my dads short box on a Silverado but I'm not sure what length chevys short box runs
