Robins Today

Sturg

I saw a large flock of robins today feeding on buckthorn berries on Grey Cloud Island. I had seen a large flock a couple weeks ago about a mile to the east. Could be the same robins today. I also saw 3 hooded mergansers(no pics) on some open backwater.

I mentioned in my robin thread from last weekend that a female gingko tree here in Coralville, IA (southeast part of the state), was a hotbed of robins a few winters ago. I was driving past there this morning and decided to check it out--here is what I found:

I took the pictures from my car, so neither was real good, but the second picture gives some idea of how many robins were there; I am guessing between twenty and thirty. Apparently they like gingko berries in the winter. cool

The robins this year seem to have decided to go by the calendar, not the weather, in deciding when spring is almost here.

We have a lot of crab apple trees outside of my workplace just south of Cedar Rapids. I had not seen a robin there since last fall, but today there were quite a few them that showed up seemingly all at once this weekend.
