Ruined him

Scudly turns 11 tomorrow, we fished Waconia today and about 5 minutes after he declares we should move spots his drag starts screaming and his JM meatstick gets a serious bend. The battle took 20 minutes on 4 pound test, we had no tape measurer so I used my hip to the ice measurement and it was over 40" and easily 20-25 pounds. He has had a heck of an ice fishing season this year with a awesome weekend on Devils lake a month ago, but I doubt he will top today

The hero shot:

The bait he used:

And the slimy hole that was left over after we released her, oh yeah, it was released:

When it got to the hole, we couldn't get it to turn to the hole so i had to reach down the hole with the ice scoop to touch the fish so it would take off and come back. 3 times before we got the head close enough to come in the hole

my son's first walleye was a 28" and his first crappie 16", we called him horse shoe boy for years. Didn't ruin him like it won't ruin your son, they just get to trash talk for a while

Congrats to you and your son, that memory will be with you two forever.

That's an awesome fish and an even better memory. Some thing is telling me that you may be getting some requests to go up to LOW and chase some of those monster pike. He's got eight or nine more months to work on Dad.
