I have the navionics app on my phone and I was wondering what do the dotted lines depict on the lake maps?

They are obviously designating possible crappie areas (who knows how accurate they are). There are others (that I am unable to find at the moment) that are similar but are spread across the entire like joining like puzzle pieces and they usually designate bottom content. Those maps are usually dnr maps so aren't very accurate anyway.

I have seen others similar to the picture that look to designate a weedline, though I have yet to verify that.

i have some waypoints entered into mine that i have never put in myself either but i have never seen the dotted lines like that.

Something like that, but it doesn't designate a fish species. Some of the lines are more elaborate kinda like what you said they look like puzzle pieces. I thought maybe the dotted lines were showing channels.

Here we go, I was able to find a lake and also its DNR lake map. This one had two separate maps one with depth and one with bottom content, I just took a screen shot of the bottom content map.

If you have the community option turned on, it will show waypoints that others have marked as public. Be careful marking your best spots that you don't make them public viewable.

ok, so it shows the outline of bottom content like sand, mud, etc. That's good to know.
