Tip-Up assembly for Pike

Wonder if anyone uses backing on their tip-ups when targeting late season shallow pike; using a spool of Sufix 50yard? Why or why not?

there is no room on a spool for backing. Just use all the tip up line you can fit.

Arctic warriors are nice you can use a heavy rod setup on them.

No backing needed, just fill spool with tip-up line.

You could if you wanted to, I have only ever been spooled on a tip up once though. If you pay attention you shouldn't have to worry

Below are 3 of the more popular rod holding tip ups you'll see in our area. Since going to the HT version, I don't anticipate using another tip up unless I HAVE to fish with one in really cold weather that would require the spool to be under water. No line capacity concerns if you have the rod and reel combo matched to your target fish.

The trip set can be tricky with these.

I haven't used one of these but have heard the arms can break and the standard trip set up involves rubber bands.

The HT Ice Rigger. The least complicated, most durable and easily packed one of the three.

In action. The hole cover laying on the ice helps keep the hole from freezing in addition to blocking the sun light.
