vister
So I am goin to Seward for a fishing/bear hunt the first week of June. I have two brothers and a few friends that live in anchorage. The others are doing black bear, any thoughts to brown bears that time of year? Or spend half as much for harvest tag, and go for black bear? fivebucks
They have bear seasons in June? I used to live in Seward and never heard of that but wasn't into bear hunting so could very well be. My impression of the area is there are black bears around but very few browns. There are some and may be a good population out in the coastal areas accessible by boat. I would go on the reccomondation of your guide as I believe non-residents can only hunt bear with a guide.
Wanderer
Page 10. AK Non Res Requirements Page 5 shows the Seward GMU (Unit 7) changed the season to close May 31 so you might want to get up there a little earlier. Personally I'd stick with the Black Bears if you're not strictly bear hunting. OR you could spend the extra on the Brown Bear tag in case you see one you like but settle for a Black Bear if you can't locate one. Never hunted bear either so take it for what it's worth.
