Matching scope with rings

Hi all. I am currently shooting a Winchester Model 70 and I have a Simmons 2.5X10X50 mounted on it with Weaver scope rings. I am looking to upgrade the scope before deer season. Now my question is, if I buy a new scope, do I have to get one that will work with the Weaver mounts/rings or will any scope work with it?

Those mounts should work ,but you have to make certain that the tube size is the same like 1 inch or 30MM also will they be tall enough if you go to a larger lens size.

Personally, I would purchase a new scope the find a good set of mounts like the Léopold one piece style, they are great mounts and hold up under all the situations of hunting and shooting.

I would get new rings just to get a more sturdy set up. The ones you have will work fine with similar sized scopes.

If you are looking to upgrade the scope, look at upgrading the rings too.

Leupolds or Talley rings.

I've always gone new rings and mounts when replacing a scope. Leupolds are my choice.
