Taking my son to Lake Nipigon

Recommended Posts

I am taking my 8 year old son to the Northeast part of Lake Nipigon in the second half of August. He is hoping to catch a big walleye in the lake. With the local fishing regulations (artificial only and 1 barbless hook) can anyone provide guidance on what lures to use for walleye on the lake? Also, how about lures for brookies/specks?

I really appreciate your guidance to help my little guy have some successful fishing action.

Enjoy the rest of summer,

Geoff

Walleyes up there aren't complicated. You can do very well on a simple jig and white or yellow grub. Gulp Alive swimming minnow grubs work really well. Sometimes adding a jig spinner can help too. You can also troll spinners with a single aberdeen hook and a 3" Gulp minnow threaded on the hook. For brookies beetle spins actually do pretty well.

Any simple bait will work well for walleyes up there , after doing a little research I found people are using plain jigs with 3-4 " twister tails, Whites and green seem to be favorable. as far as brookies I agree beetle spins (small) will land plenty of fish for you. good luck ! post some pics after your trip :-)

If your fishing the little Jack or the Onamon don't be afraid to troll wally divers or jointed countdown raps--my biggest fish seem to come off these plugs. You'll catcha ton of walleyes--its a banner year for them.
