Bass Rod

I'm looking to buy a new baitcasting rod for bass fishing. I already own a 6'6" Med with a Mod action and I also own a 7'0" MH with a moderate action, but it fishes like a Medium powered rod. Right now I have my eyes set on something around the 7'0" mark with a "True" Medium Heavy feel paired with a Fast to Extra Fast action. I would like to try and make this as versatile of a rod as possible (Spinner baits, top water, pitching/flipping, jerk bait, senko, etc.). Am I along the right lines of going with a Medium Heavy and a Fast Action or how should I go about my rod selection when I am trying to get as many different applications out of this rod as possible?

I am probably going to end up pairing this rod with either the Shimano Curado 6.5:1 or 7.1:1. Thanks for any input you guys can offer up, as I am a hardcore walleye nut, but enjoy catching big bruiser bass as well.

I would like to stay under the $150 price point on the rod if at all possible, probably between $100-$150. I have been looking at some of the Dobyn's, the Lew's, the BPS Carbonlite, and some of the Quantum rods. Anyone have much experience with any of the Carbonlite's? What about some of the Lew's lineup of rods, how do they perform for multipurpose rods?

a MH/Fast is a good versatile type rod but not necessarily for treb baits...mod action for treb baits is best...

alot of people are liking the 13 fishin omen rods...i don't have experience with that rod line personally but its in your price range...

I have dobyns rods and the champion series are great...the savvy are decent rods for any moving baits...i personally wouldn't get a savvy for bottom contact...champion or the extreme series for that...

Does anyone have any of the Mojo Bass series rods. I went out fishing with a buddy today who had one and he seemed to like it...

Kind of turning away from the post, I decided to give Abu a try instead of going with another Shimano so I went ahead purchased a Revo STX 6.4:1 and will be pairing it with whatever rod I ever decide to pull the trigger on. If this is going to be a multi-purpose combo, would braid be better compared to fluorocarbon, or vis-versa?

Purchased a Abu Garcia Veritas 7' mh action a couple years ago. Still have it and still love it. I think I bought it new for 135$ or something like that. Have seen them recently for around 100$. As for line I had 17 lb stren castable fluorocarbon on it so far this year. I thought I might just give it a try and I couldn't cast as well as id hope. So I swapped that out for 20 lb trilene fireline. Now I can cast baits I wouldn't even think about trying to throw with the fluoro. Hope something helps

I'm in the same boat and I've been researching for quite a while. I think I'm going with the 13 Omen MH. $120 and it feels great. The only issue is it only has a 5-year warranty.

Really? Darn! This morning I just bought a Shimano Crucial. I changed my mind from the 13 Omen because the Shimano graphite is better and they have a liftime warranty.

Great choice on the STX. I have two. One on a 7' St Croix Premier similar to what you're looking at. The other on a 7'3" Omen. Omen by a WIDE margin.

The Mojo's are premier blanks with split grips. The difference is that they're built in Mexico to keep costs down. Fantastic rods. My Omen just outperforms the Premier and comes in at a lower price point.

Pick up both and make the decision.

I made the choice and chose to go with the Omen Black 7'1" Medium Fast action rod. The Omens just felt so much nicer in my hands and I read so many great reviews that I might as well give it a shot. Plus, I picked up a free hat, a free spool of Sufix 12lb Siege, and free shipping to go along with it. I'll post some pics once I get the rod shipped to show you the new setup! I can't wait to get this combo in my hands grin

Regarding the question about Mojo Bass. It's the only rod I ever bought, and thats a lot, that I really felt gyped on. It's a super heavy club.

Well, I finally got my rod shipped to my door today. I have to say that the STX and the Omen balance incredibly well compared to other baitcasters that I have. Here are a couple quick pics of what I shot today and I will be getting this new setup out on the water for testing this upcoming weekend. I can't wait! :yay:
