Can you pick on a refuge??

Had a friend get fined for picking on one. he had a map from the us fish and wildlife service showing it was ok but the but the refuge person didn't agree and fined him.

It was my understanding you can't pick or take anything from a national refuge , not even a deer shed.

I've been calling around and don't really get a good answer.

I did some searching last night with no real good results. It looks like the regulations vary from refuge to refuge, and permits may or may not be needed for various activities. One thing that was odd was that "requested URL could not be found" pops up for the main FWS.GOV web site. Nothing like the well greased wheels of government.

Pretty sure it varies refuge to refuge. I am only some what familiar with Sherburne National W.R. and recall that during spring/summer we are only allowed to walk some trails, so going wondering around the land picking stuff at this time would be a no go.

Don't get State confused with National either. State Forests most everything goes, National not so sure.
