What do you do when...

Recommended Posts

You are at the gym and you see somebody working out(usually lifting weights) and they are doing everything completely wrong? If you spend any amount of time in a gym you'll see it sooner or later so I know most of you have to have seen some people doing some very goofy stuff while lifting.

Do you correct them or let them continue doing it wrong? If you do correct them how do you approach them without sounding like a jerkbait?

Usually I just let people do what they do, heck maybe they are at the forefront of some sort of new workout craze I don't know about. However, if they are likely to hurt themselves I may say something or at least mention it to one of the training staff at the gym and let them suggest a safer option.

I have had to jump in and save a few people on the bench press that were too manly to ask for a spotter. There is one guy I run into a lot who always refuses an offer to spot him. The other guys in the gym always have to keep an eye on him when lifting and we've had to jump in on occasion to save him from himself.

I have approached a few women when I see incorrect form and they have been appreciative. Maybe I assume they would be more open for a little help I don't know. Also a couple older guys that I see in there but outside of that I leave people alone.

What really cracks me up is the guys with huge upper bodies and tiny little legs. You know how they walk around with the cop walk (arms flaired out at the sides) and will only wear pants of course. I feel so bad for a couple of them I almost want to say something but you know it wouldn't go well Lol. Not sure if they only look in the mirrors that are several feet off the ground or what but hey to each their own. What I don't get is they are extremely dedicated to the upper body and have very nice builds but for whatever reason just refuse to work on the legs.....

Unless they curl in the squat rack... unforgivable

You mean like this?

Hey now, dont be too quick to judge guys with small legs especially if you're looking at their calf muscles. If you lost out on the genetic lottery and where given horrible calf muscles your almost SOL unless you eat Clen and Tren hard. I unfortunately was one that lost out. Horrible muscle insertions and small joints but I can ATG squat more than some guys with naturally big legs.

One thing that always cracks me up is the people who take the time to go to the gym and then hop on the treadmill and walk SOOOOOO slow. I've seen these people walk faster as they walk through the parking lot. For some reason they get on the treadmill and they get all scared of hurting themselves or something. Or maybe they think the treadmill is a magic machine that will burn calories just by being on it.

The other thing I see alot are people (usually women) who get on the leg press and do just a couple reps at the lowest possible setting (something like 20 pounds). The walk over to the machine was probably more physically taxing than the lift they just did.

I do watch people at the gym mostly out of curiosity. A lot of people just seem to do scattered workouts. Most gyms, at least the one I go to, will offer about a month of personal training. IMO, if someone really wants to learn to work out, a trainer is best. I feel if I approach them, I would get the "who are you" look

What cracks me up are the fat guys who work out and have muscles but are still fat and walk like that

If you have osteoarthritis in your knees then you get to rip on people.

What do you do when... She says she doesn't want to use the hip sled because she doesn't want huge legs. I just laugh. Like she can't use less weight and high reps.

99% of the time I leave everyone alone. I may gander longer than norm at the hotties though.

    • Yeah it was a beatdown
    • Your kid needs to stay with him!👍
    • My kid was eating in Beverly Hills and ran into this guy. Talked to him a bit and wished him luck in the game tonight.
    • 🤔as a recovering machinist!🤣🤣that must make me a recovering welder!
    • As a recovering machinist, I can appreciate that.  If the spec is 0.001 - 0.0015, then clearly the correct measurement is 0.00125, duh…
    • I just figured that it is easy enough to just get a 3 bank so when the boat is not in use I can keep all 3 batteries charged. I have not bough a charger yet, maybe I will give it some more thought. Edit: After thinking this over, with the size, weight, and heat output of the charger (as well as the cost) I think it makes sense to just buy a 2 bank charger, I have a smaller charger i can use on the starting battery when the boat is sitting at home. Forgive me, for i am a retired engineer and I have to obsess over everything...
    • Congrats on the motor!  I think you’ll like it.   I can’t say much on the charger location but I’ve seen them under the lid in back compartments and under center rod lockers.  160 degrees is more than I expected to hear.   Curious why you’re opting for a 3 bank charger with a 24V trolling motor.  Unless you don’t feel you be running you big motor enough to keep that battery up as well?
    • I did buy an Minnkota Ulterra, thanks for the recommendations. I had a bunch of Cabela"s bucks saved up, which helped. Now i need to get an onboard battery charger. Where do you guys mount these things in your boat? The manufacturer I am looking at {Noco genius) says tht their 3-bank charger will run at 160 degrees, seems like a lot of heat in an enclosed compartment? Thanks for any input on this.
    • You're very lucky a troop of Sea Monkey's didn't carry you away.
    • Wasn't terrible at a state park beach. Antelope island maybe.  I wouldn't recommend it as a beach destination tho.  Figured I was there, I'm getting in it.
