Life jacket Commercial

Recommended Posts

Has anyone else heard the life jacket commercial on the radio lately? At the end of the commercial thay say something about the wearing of life jackets while hunting is now a law? I wear mine, but other people in the boat don't, unless they want to.
I have searched the DNR HSOforum and other websites, but cannot find any information anywhere.

Thanks in advance.

To the best of my knowledge it is not a law. I believe the law does read that there has to be an "accessable, wearable" life jacket for each person in the boat. If you are hunting out of a 16 foot or larger boat, I believe you are required to have a "throwable" device in the boat, i.e. a certified floating seat cushion.

I think it's the same rule as fishing. You must have one for every person in the boat but not on.I think it's a good idea thou to keep it on if you hunt IN the boat, otherwise I take mine off after the dekes are set.I stay pretty much on the shore, other than to pick up a bird, then I just have the jacket by my feet.

I have only heard the end of the commercial, but I have had at least a dozen people tell me that there is a new law just put into effect, because they heard a commercial on the radio. I am sure it is just a public service announcment to try and get more people to wear their life jacket. Just wanted to see if anybody else has heard anything. Would ahte to be sitting drinking my coffee waiting for 9 AM and have a CO give me a ticket for not wearing the life jacket...

Thanks Guys

If you are even thinking about shooting out of a canoe -- if you have your gun with you -- WEAR your life jacket! Had a very scary experience last year when a buddy of mine pass-shot a ringneck as he was canoeing across the lake to the blind and he went into the COLD water. (We broke ice to put the blocks out about an hour before.) Took him a LONG half hour to swim and push that upside-down canoe across the lake. He was NOT wearing a life jacked. He does now, and does not take his gun with him any more.

Just a word of caution... that morning could have been a lot worse.
