Fence materials

Thinking of putting a wooden fence not a total privacy fence but something a bit more aesthetically pleasing than chain link.

I do plan on all posts being pressure treated. But how about fascia boards, plain pine OK. I am thinking since it really doesn't sit in the ground they wouldn't really be so prone to rot, right? I would be staining them. Part of the reason is I don't want to use what they offer for prebuilt, not fond of rough sawn(sp?) so a plain 1x6 would be my preference. I know the price per diff is not that great, but we are talking a lot of 1x6 here.

If you want it to last for more than a few years, it can't be just plain pine. Staining might buy you a couple years, but an untreated pine fence board won't last long term even if it's off the ground.

Well not what I really was hoping to hear, but kinda what I was thinking I would hear.

Cedar would be the way to go, but much more money. Treated 1x6 would be a good option. That's what I did for my fence. you can let it sit for 6 months or so and then stain it to a more desirable color other than green. Treated isn't much more $$ than regular pine.
