I will be spending a week in Michigan on vacation from June 10th-17th. I got the ok to spend 1 day fishing with a guide since im not going to pull my boat out for only 1 day of fishing. We are starting our trip in the U P. I want to fish smallmouths. I know Lake St. Clair is an amazing smallmouth lake but, I would rather find a good inland lake in the northern part of michigan i can fish. does anyone know a good guide i could use for a day and a good area of michigan to fish smallmouths? or should i just try and plan to go to st. clair

The Manistque lakes (north, south and big) all have great smallie fishing. If you want size I'd go to north but very little structure on that lake but the bass are big. I've caught legit 6lbers out there. Big probably has the best structure and a bigger population. As far as guides, sorry I can't help you out there as it's been quite a few years since I lived there. You could check with one of the tackle shops in Curtis and they could help you out.

By coincidence I am considering moving to the UP so as to be in an area where smallmouth fishing is good.....Any more input is appreciated...Since I'm retired , a job or schools, etc are not a concern.....I like small town living and smallmouths and the UP seems to have both.
