Pikestabber77
Would it be possible to be able to catch suckers/carp right now or are they too lethargic because of the water temps? A few rivers near my house opened up and I'm itching to get out
bobbymalone
probably won't be super hot action, but I'd go for it.I catch suckers drifting nymphs for trout during the winter trout season.
Pikestabber77
Yeah I was thinking the same thing. I know a spot where there's a deep slow pool that I might give a shot
OnAFly
Do they just sit in pools this time of year? I'd like to catch a few on a fly to add the my species list.
Pikestabber77
Right now yes. In a few weeks they will be going on there spawning run which will have large numbers of them sitting at the head of pools waiting to make a push upstream. JP Z
Considering that Trout Opener for the rest of us is in 2 weekends and usually the River I fish is FULL of suckers by then I think you should still have some now. They may be slow but drift a chunk of crawler under their snout and they should bite.

davidbigreelz
any of you guys ever try any of the smaller feeder creeks?
NowthenJoe
I would like to try some of the feeder creeks as well. They are pretty swelled up right now though and muddy (the ones I can see from the road).Trott and Ford Brook are real close to me, but a lot of the spots I would like to try are private property. I have seriously considered throwing on the waders and giving it a go though. If you try any, I would be very interested in what you find.-Joe
davidbigreelz
I have been thinking the exact same thing for about a month now lol probably about the exact same spots!
Stick500
suckers are cool, but they sure can be fussy at timesmore than once I've run into small schools of them in clear water and bounced wiggling crawlers off their heads with no reaction at allbut whenever I do catch one they put up a heck of fightadded to my species list last spring when I finally caught a hogsucker- awesome looking fish!
