Fish House Build

Recommended Posts

After looking at different builds on this site I've finally figured out how I want to design my first build. I ordered the frame and aluminum and will be picking up next week. The frame measures 8'6x18+4'V. I'm really excited to get started and hope to have it completed by the end of June just in time for Country Fest. I'll be posting pictures/updates as I progress.

I'm watching too because I'm starting soon on mine. 1st question though, why 18 ft? Doesn't that just make for waste, or a lot of extra work, as opposed to 16 or 20?

Decided to go 18' because It's going to double as a toy hauler/camper. I want to be able to fit both motorcycles in it. Also, I'm putting a bathroom in it. 18' in length is about the longest I could go with getting by with just a heavy duty single axle.

Well the weather was finally decent enough out here today where I could get the first coat of the sealer on the frame. Going to get the second coat on tomorrow, and hopefully have the flooring installed by the end of the weekend. Updates/pics to come.

I'm going with POR 15. It was that or bedliner, from what people say I think they are pretty close for performance. Expensive paint either way!

Yes it is! How much Por15 do you figure it will take?

I have a buddy who got his powder coated, seems really durable. Im working on his guy for a price.

When I watch the videos on utube the guys( not POR employees) do a whole truck frame with a quart! That sounds crazy, I ordered 3 quarts but I'm thinking 2 would be more than plenty. Be sure to watch the video before using, there some things to know like only take as much out of the can as you can use fast, Seal the can with saran wrap, and even 1 drop of sweat can ruin whats in the container you're painting out of.?.!

That por15 is some really good stuff!

18ft plus 4ftv, 22ft total plus tounge and 8.5ft wide with just one axle? Sounds really long for just a single axle. Think of how much tounge weight your going to have.

What differnce does the # of axles make on tounge weight? Only matters how far back the axle/axles are.

I have a buddy that's built a few with the same dimensions as mine and said he never had an issue with it because of one axle. And it's 8'6 out to the ends of the wheels.

Put the floor, floor sealer, and walls up this weekend. Also got half of the aluminum hung.

It's been a pretty depressing spring out here in South Dakota so it was nice to finally get this thing started. I wish my garage was about four feet longer than it is so I could work on it inside.

How do I upload pictures? I'm sure I'm just not seeing the icon to click.

Got the rest of the aluminum on this weekend. Ran short on diamond plate so I only went around the windows. It'll be a few weeks before I get back at her.

If you don't mind sharing, where are you on dollars/cost now. I'm about a month behind you is why I'm asking.

Hi Where do you get the aluminum to side your fish house and how much is a good price to pay for it? I have a 4 x 8 skid house that I would like to re-side.

Thanks

Oh, around $5000. I've got everything purchased to finish the project (outside of spray foam insulation). After the insulation I'll be in it for about $10,000. I've got a pretty elaborate sound system and a 50" tv going in it.

I got all of my aluminum (smooth and diamond plate) from Voyager Aluminum in Brandon, MN. I did a lot of searching and they were the best priced I could find. I was very pleased with the customer service/product and would recommend them to anyone.

Haha, I asked in an earlier post on how to upload pics. I can't seem to figure it out.

You need an account on a photo hosting site. I use Photobucket. First, you upload the pics to the photo hosting site, and copy the URL. Then you come over to FM, click the 4th icon from the left, I select "insert a non-floating image", and paste the URL in the box. To make sure it was done correctly, click "Preview Post", review, and then click "Submit" once it is correct. Very simple once you do it a few times.

Just a word of caution but you probably know-you can be too close to big tv and they don't look very good. That's a lot of tv for 18 ft. Thank you for the cost reply.

Thanks for the info on uploading pics.

Lip, I did what you said and all it does is show up as a link? Am I missing something?
