THOMPSON CENTER - IMPACT VS OMEGA

Recommended Posts

Just wondering what peoples thoughts are about these two muzzleloaders? Is there any reason to go with the more expensive Omega over the Impact? Is one easier to clean than the other? Any advice to someone trying to get into muzzleloading would be appreciated.

Thanks

I bought my omega 3 or 4 years back. It's been great. I choose it after a bit of research. Chuck hawks had a good review on it.

I borrowed a TC impact from my buddy and didnt like how you pulled back on the hood with two fingers. When it was cold out it was a pain in the butt to break the barrel. Thats the only thing I didnt like about it...

I checked out a bunch of Muzzle loaders at the store the other day and was not real impressed with the Impact. Like you say it looks like it could be a pain to open in the cold.

Two MLs that I did like though were the Traditions Accelerator and the CVA Accura. I really like the feel of the Tradition unfortunately I don't know anybody that has any experience using one.

I ended up buying the CVA Wolf from the fleet farm. Not to expensive and liked how it broke open.I sighted it in and so far I like it.

I actually own a CVA Wolf and a T/C Impact and i like the CVA a little better. I've owned the Wolf for 5 years now and really like it,it's very accurate. I shoot 100 grains of triple 7 magnum and a 265 grain Powerbelt and shoot a 3 inch group at 65 yards with open sights. I bought my son the Impact this year for his first year of muzzleloader hunting. I personally like the fit of the Wolf better and also the break mechanism. The Impact is a nice gun and the stock adjusts for a growing hunter but if I would buy it over i would've bought him the Wolf also.
