Macgyver55
I pulled a 6x12 trailer from MT to Duluth, then from Duluth to Bloomington and finally from Bloomington to Rochester. If you drive smart, you're rated for it. Open trailer, box trailer, how much weight, and did it have trailer brakes? The pickup he wants to haul weighs in at somewhere around 4500 lbs. If you're hauling that amount on a trailer its required to have brakes, and if you had enough less weight to not need brakes its not really a fair comparison. Scott K
01, and a 2000 are different. The 01 was more beefy, larger tires, larger brakes, better suspension, and you probably had the 4.0 SOHC engine, more power. It can do it, but the truck will be at its limits. Again, a 50 mile trip, no big deal, a 700 mile trip, I would find something else.
Jeremy airjer W
I'm going to suggest doing it but with a twist. We start a pool. Entry level you make it or you don't (couple bucks in), engine transmission failure (20 bucks) all the way up to somebody is dead (hundred bucks). If nothing happens we do full pay outs. If something happens we split the payouts 50/50 to cover the damageThe whole trip needs to be video documented from at least two different angles and and mishap with significance or extreme humor must try to be sold to as many news agencies as possible. All those proceeds go to pay outs.

Too bad I didn't have a camera to get a picture of the Camry with KY plates towing about a 20 foot glass boat up Highway 53 north of Cook, on the way to the Falls. It was back in the 90's and I always wondered if he got back home.

Scott K
One time on my way up to Leach Lake, on HWY 200, just east of the casino about 5 miles, I seen a small older Ford Ranger pulling a ~35' yaht, that was atleast 4 times taller then the pickup, twice as wide, and 3 times as long. Pretty sure it was ilegal as all get ups!
BoxMN
I had a '87 Ranger, with good BFG tires, and pulling a 18' alum boat with 150hp motor, had it push me right through a stop sign... I was maybe going a bit fast, maybe not, but that was enough to make me drive much different... then I got a half ton, ha!

Pretty sure it was ilegal as all get ups! That is awesome. I wish you had a picture. I watched a guy try to pull a 28' boat out of the water with a Camaro. The boat won. Dave S
Tell your buddy to sell the truck where it sits and give you half the proceeds for the advice.
shizzy
I've got an 03 ranger and I've pulled a little 14' aluminum boat and I could defiantly feel it back there when I was coming to a stop. There is no way in hell I would pull that F-150 any further than a few blocks under 35MPH. and yes, Mine has sway bars front and rear, LT tires and 4:10 gears. 700 miles? No.
