fishing the sand

I'm headed to Mille Lacs this weekend to try "fishing the sand" for the first time this weekend. I've been told to fish the sand on the north end but my question is... What is considered the north end? Past Garrison? Myr Mar? Malmo? I typically fish out of Garrison, so how much farther north do I need to go to fish decent water. Thanks for any help guys!

I've fished sand from malmo all the way to myr mar. I've seen fish in lots of places along the entire north end. Pick some spots with good wind and fish fast. Lots of ground to cover and fish could be in 2 ft of water or sometimes in the 4-6 foot break is good also.

yeah you're talking from just past myr mar all the way down south of malmo for sand. i like to hold the boat shallow, 2 feet or so and cast out. you can usually reach that first shallow break that way and cover the sand. hotspots will be the darker patches that you can see as you go along, and the areas where the cabbage runs up and grows shallower are also key. it's a fun bite up there when it's on, definitely agree with fishing fast.
