DanM
I am looking for info on the boat ramp at Windigo south of Hayward. It sounds like it is rough at best. I would love to explore the lake but I am worried about launching. Thanks. DanM
snoozebutton
I've never used the landing but I've drivem by it and it didn't look too bad to me. Guess it depends on what type of boat you have but any smaller boat shouldn't be a problem. Not much for parking though but this time of year you'll probably be the only one using it.What I do on some of the poorer landings is take along a pair of hip boots. They're a big help getting the boat on and off, pretty inexpensive and easy to get on and off.
Catch 22
like snooze said depends on your boat if you have a drive on trailer shouldn't be a problem, and it has HIGH LEVELS OF MERCURY.
mrg
they dropped the high mercury band. not as bad as they once said. also they just put a large parking lot up the hill from the landing.
DanM
I finally fished Windigo this week. What a nice lake. The area around the ramp is fairly shallow but I had no problem launching my boat. Caught walleyes, LM and SM.I only saw 1 other boat. I will fish it again. DanM
AndyM
I agree, very nice lake. My aunt and uncle live on Windigo, and I have another aunt and uncle that live on Grindstone. Windigo is a fun lake to fish. Lot's and lot's of structure. I've never ice fished it yet, but one of these years I will. The eagles follow my aunts pontoon around and all the small northern she catches the eagles snag them up as soon as she releases them. Pretty cool to see. I'll be on Grindstone this weekend. Hopefully the fish will be biting.
