cubby/box/bucket set rules

Recommended Posts

I've read the DNR regs on this type of set. My understanding is that the trap has to be set 7inches inside from all openings. So having one of the sides of a box extend 7inches beyond the others would NOT be a legal box. My understanding is that this is the rule for all conibear sizes unless the trap is completely submerged in water, or if it is just a blind set/no box...

So basically if you want to set a box set or the like with a conibear, the trap has to be inside the box by 7inches? Is this right?

I don't believe that's correct.

Minnesota regs say, a Conibear greater than 6-1/2" and less than 7-1/2" Placed on PUBLIC LAND And waters must meet ONE of the three requirements.

1)recessed 7" minimum from the top and front of an enclosure (not all four sides)see the picture in the regulations.

2)No bait/attractants within 20' of the trap.(trap could be set without enclosure)

3)Or the trap is elevated 3' above the ground.

It goes on to say an enclosure with the trap recessed 7" from all sides could also be used.

160's are around 5"x5"

280's- 8-3/4"x8-3/4"

Hope this helps.
