slammer
1999 150 Merc EFI. Can a shop find out how many hours my motor has on it? What is considered average for this type of motor?
Brad B
most motors can be hooked up to a computer and the shop can check hours and if any alarms went off. I would say just call a shop that works on mercs and they should be able to help you out.
delcecchi
I don't think that the older two strokes had computers in them, so I would be surprised if there was any way of reading the hours.
Brad B
isn't the EFI ran off of some type of computer board on the motor so that the system knows what adjustments to make to maximize fuel economy. I guess I have only seen the newer motors that could be hooked to a computer.
BoxMN
I know a '97 150efi can't, and don't think the efi's have changed much, that is the 2 stroke "efi"s. But the '97's were also the last year before some type of epa change, or so I heard, that still allowed them to be hopped up and be legal. Not sure what it is, as our boat is not a speed demon so we never tried anything other than props and motor height and weight dist to gain performance... whoops, that is not for this thread though
