basslkjohn
I have a yammi 9.9 that is driving me crazy. Last summer it began to have problems..quiting after about 45 minutes of trolling...and hard to restart. So I began the problem solving by throwing parts at it: new plugs, carb cleaning, new fuel pump, new thermo-electrical choke,...and it ran o.k. for the rest of the season. Now its acting up again...quiting after 15 minutes and not starting until I've waited about an hour. So I installed a new cdi thinking that the old one must have heated up and severed some electrical connection. The thing starts with one pull when its cool and runs really smoothly for the first 15 or 20 minutes...and then quits. Do I replace the coil components??? I would really appreciate some suggestions or at least some sympathy from other boaters that are having a similar problem. As always, thanks for your consideration. Tom7227
Is it spitting water? Any chance the impeller is clogged or damaged?
basslkjohn
Tom: the water pump is working fine...and as the lake water temps fall, I think the motor will keep running longer.
boatfixer
Check for spark immediately after it dies, verify it's the ignition before you throw more money into it. That stuff gets pretty pricey, as I'm sure youre well aware of!
basslkjohn
Great idea. It will be in the 90s today, so I will put the spark tester in the boat and go for a run. Thanks.
