led lighting

OK. I have my 6.5x12 shack framed and closing in on time for wiring/lights etc.

I went to a couple led websites, but it's tough to know how many lights are needed. At the prices, I don't want to overdo it.

I was looking at can lights of some sort...but am looking for suggestions from anyone who has used these in a shack before.

Thanks

John

My only input on LED's is the "harshness" of the white/blue light that might suprise you compared to incandescents or candle light. Some of them have filters that will add some red and green tint give a "warmer" light. Just a heads up. Don't know what to say about quantity.

This shows what I am talking about:

Light brightness is measured in lumens. The color of the light is measured in kelvin degrees. The higher the kelvin rating the more blue or cool white. The lower the kelvin rating and you get into warm white.

You could take an led flashlight rated at say 100 lumen and see how much light that gives you from ceiling height. It may help you determine what your needs are.

I have 180 lumen over the table. Two 540 lumen strips in the center of the house and 100 lumen over each hole. 3-1 watt led accent lighting under the front cabinet, over the stove. 100 lumen inside the upper and lower cabinets. All in warm white. I don't run the 540's during fishing, just a couple of the hole lights. I have a 600+ lumen cool white for outside lights.
