Sandhill Crane

Recommended Posts

I'm fascinated by these big birds. They walk like flamingos emit a raspy coo that can be heard for long distances. Most of my Sandhill shots are part of landscapes but got nice and close for this shot. The first settlers called them Prime Rib on the wing. They are just now making a comeback from being too tasty.

We had a pair that had and raised 3 chicks in our neighborhood in FL.

some years back. It was truly interesting watching them, they'd be out

pecking gravel on the drive ways in the morning, they make some really

kool sounds. Truly beautiful birds, nice pic.
