Any advantage of using a 2 hook harness over a three hook...

Recommended Posts

No I have never tried running all three. The advantage of 3 hooks over 2 is if you are using large full crawlers it will prevent missing some of the fish. I pull spinners a lot and I typically only use one of two hook harnesses because I like using a 1/2 a crawler at a time.

I have used both extensively. The only thing with a 2 hook harness and a full worm is you have to loop the end of the worm and hook it one more time so there is not as much of a tail hanging.

Some prefer two-hook rigs to reduce the amount of snags, even to the point of cutting the third hook off. I use both two and three hook rigs and have no opinion one way or the other.

No need to loop - just pinch enough off so you have maybe 3" or so after the second hook on a two-hook rig. I feel like I'm pulling a dredge around with a three-hook rig. Training wheels(two hooks) can do everything the three hook rig does, and cuts your net tangles, etc, by a third.

If your going to run full crawlers, make your harnesses with more room between the two hooks. Problem solved.

I use two hook harnesses, less hooks to go wrong with (snag, hook the net, carpet, hand) and they are cheaper to make (lose). I have used three hook harnesses and don't see an advantage.
