Heartman
01 Dodge 1500 needed a u joint replaced - lots of wobble. Took to local garage, and of course things were rusted in - repair cost went from about $170 or so to a titch over $350 due to extra parts needed. But it sure makes a difference - I can do alot of car repairs, but the axle u joint replacement was a bit over my head. Such is life... MuleShack
I just did my first U joints last weekend on my 2500. I invested in a vise and then hammered those things out. The outside ones are pretty easy because the drive shaft comes out and then I locked it in the vise. It should be easy with the exception of having to take the bearings off. They are the problem if they are rusty. My next challenge is doing the main drive shafts, but I cant beat them so I'm gonna rent a tool that is like a clamp that squeezed them out.I figured even with the purchase of the vise, I still saved $300.
