HooknHorns
When preping a site for sizing up a trophy, other than a barrel what stuff can i use for comparison? I heard about six foot logs but, is a big bear six foot nose to but? It seems like alot of length. How tall should I mark a tree for shoulder height. With trail cams it seems like its not perfect for sizing up bears. I know if i see a huge bear that i will know its a shooter. Is there any other tips? Boar
Yea, the logs cut at six foot is a good indicator, an a six foot bear is big. Or cut a a few logs at five ft so if a bear comes close to the length or over, its agood bear. Those logs should be the logs that u use to funnle the bear to the bait so the odds are he'll be brodside to the log for comparison, but this isnt always a sure thing. I like to flag some trees at the 3 ft level on teh trail hes using or at the bait crib. the ack of a bear at the level or close is a big bear. A bear that has its ears that are angle of the head is a good indicator of a adult bear, one with its ears straight up an down like a teaddy bear is a young bear. the distance bettween the ear will be wider on a adult bear than a young one to. boar
