whats it worth J Purdey Shotgun

Recommended Posts

I haven't won the lottery yet...

however I did get bequeathed a J Purdey and Sons 20 gauge side by side shotgun, circa 1975. It does not have a spare set of barrels and no wooden case but I still have the gun. It is beautiful to say the least. It has some gold inlay and the only imperfection is a slight hair line crack in the "pistol" grip area.

I have no plans on selling it however any guesses on what it's worth with the above information?

I did some fast digging just looking at the sites and the cheapest one was $19,000 without the case and a small crack it will affect the value. If you decide to get the stock fixed please do me a favor and don't try and save money with a bargain shop gunsmith take it to the best of the best it's a gun that's worth the extra $$$$.

Something great to hand down to future generations, but I wouldn't have the crack fixed if it wasn't for sale. I have a double barrel 12 gauge from one grandfather and a 30-30 from my other grandfather and these guns are invaluable to me and will never be sold by me, but will be handed down hopefully for ever. The value is in who used it and the memories with it. I'm very greatful to have these to pass on. My oldest son also has my fathers shotgun.

Depending on the condition it could be worth $30,000+. The pistol grip is a buzz kill. Does it have a splinter forend or a beaver tail forend. Ideally it'd be straight through the wrist with a splinter forend, double triggers and a swamped rib.
