AIS sticker location

When I picked my up on Saturday I was told the top portion has to go on your boat in a location that is clearly visible to the casual observer.

I have noticed in other threads that people are putting them under rod locker lids, below the seat cushion, etc.----honestly what is the deal-----where to they belong?

I just want to stick it on and be done with the stupid thing but, have not really got a straight answer other than the baitshop I picked it up at. I am favoring on a seat pole.

Straight from the DNR HSOforum. It can be attached like a luggage tag, so zip tie and done, easy remove, no sticky mess.

Q. Where does the decal need to be attached on the watercraft?

A. The decal must be attached to the watercraft, but state law does not specify where it needs to be attached. It does not need to be in view of the operator as with the personal watercraft decal. It does not need to be placed near the watercraft registration decals and is not recommended to be in that area of the boat. It is recommended to display it where it can be read and can be shown to an officer upon request.

If the owner does not want to stick the decal on the boat because it is an antique wooden boat or other unique boat, they may attach the decal to an object or laminate it and attach it like a luggage tag.

I put the small piece with the 2012 on the trailor by the winch and the other portion by my tranducer back by the big motor.

I just put mine on the windshield where every DNR, Sherrif, Coast Guard and anyone else who may stop me can see it. The bottom tag went by my trailer winch. They should have made the tag smaller and brighter. That way more people would put it in more visible spots.

I put mine in the transom well. Proud owner of a new boat, the gray of the AIS sticker almost perfectly matches the color inside the transom well. I have never understood the whining about this sticker. What really chaps my hide is that ugly blaze orange 14 sticker I had to put on my boat, after I ordered custom lettering for the boat numbers.

I hear ya on the year sticker. Butt ugly. The folks that design these things either don't value their craft, or don't own one.

As far as the sticker goes, I'm not sure where I'm putting it yet. That small one that says remember the drain plug will go unnoticed after a few lanchings by most folks. We get use to seeing things and no longer READ them.

I put mine inside the lid of my rod locker. The lid opens up to the hight of the windshild so the sticker can be seen by anyone standing behind the windshild.

I've talked to a DNR AIS inspectors at boat launches before and they have always been cordial. If I see an inspector at the landings this year I'll open the rod locker before they ask and while the boat is still on the trailer.

I challenged the guy at the Tonka ramp about where I had to affix the sticker. He said the bottom part is not required. The main sticker is required be be affixed but it doesn't matter where. Since he could tell I didn't want it stuck to my boat he suggested sticking it to the back side of my glove box door.

That is correct, the bottom portion does not need to be put on the winch, it is just a friendly reminder about your drain plug. As far as the decal goes inside the glove box is a good idea, I am putting mine on the inside of my livewell lid, out of sight and out of mind.

I put mine on the windshield where it wraps around back toward my consul. I don't even see but anybody who might want to has a wide open shot at it. Figure if a CO should pull up, they usually will pull up driver to driver, it is right there for him to see. got better things to do so I'm goin fishin.

New required aquatic invasive species rules decal for boaters now available

(Released April 5, 2012)

A new required decal is now available for Minnesota boaters to help remind them of the state’s aquatic invasive species laws, the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) announced today.

The free decals are available at:

■DNR offices.

■Deputy registrar offices where licenses are sold.

■Large sporting goods shops.

■DNR watercraft inspectors and conservation officers.

The decals will also be included in envelopes with new and renewal watercraft licenses mailed from the DNR.

The decal should be attached to all types of watercraft including canoes, kayaks and duckboats before launching on, entering into, or operating on any Minnesota waters.

The two-piece, gray-and-black decals detail new state laws that watercraft users must follow in order to avoid spreading aquatic invasive species such as zebra mussels, Eurasian watermilfoil and spiny waterfleas.

The decal must be attached to the watercraft, but state law does not specify where that must occur. DNR officials recommend displaying it where it can be read and can be shown to an officer upon request. However, the decal does not need to be in view of the operator (as is the case with the state’s personal watercraft decal), and it does not need to be placed near the watercraft registration decals.

If a watercraft owner does not want to stick the decal on the boat because it is an antique wooden boat or other unique boat, the decal can be attached or laminated to an object like a luggage tag and kept in the boat.

There are two parts to the decal. Watercraft owners and operators must display the top portion of the decal on all watercraft prior to launching on, entering into, or operating on any waters of Minnesota.

The second portion of the decal is intended to be placed on the winch post of watercraft trailers or in another area to remind boaters to remove the boat’s drain plug when leaving a water access area as required by state law. It also reminds boaters to replace the plug before launching. This decal is not required by law.

Now look at the waste of funds to throw the latest decal out and print new ones.

Throw them all out of office this next election.

a private company could not opperate the way these clowns do. printing 400,000 tickets at over 60 grand and not saving them until after this course in the future is outrageous buy typical. this type of action sours my future support of any further action by the leglislature. i sent off a letter to my rep on this. my wallet will stay closed this year for support. good luck.

There is NOT one rep in office that I will vote for this fall for the next election. I do not know if changing as many as possible will work as the other larger issue is our system which pits tone party against the other.

But, something has to give and we can start with those in office.

Send it to the DNR instead...it was their idea.
