safety kill switch

hi 1978 15 hp evinrude and 9.8 mercury 1984 motors. just wondering is there a after market type deal to make a safety kill switch. to pull off of myself like the new ones. had kinda a close call today just wondering if you can make anything like that.

I've done it several times. Ive got the surface mount type kill switches from OMC (any surface mount brand will work). Tie one side of the switch into the black/yellow wire going into the switch box (merc)/powerpack (johnson) and the other side to a ground.

The older merc may be an Orange wire.

The only other thing is finding a place to mount it. Somewhere in the lower cowling usually works.

thanks boat fixer this is great. do i buy this part at a marine dealer. do i have to ruin the cover etc to drill for it to mount it. i think i know what you mean for the wiring does it wire into the stop button. not sure thank you so much.
