Sturg
I did bird house with the grandkids a year ago Christmas. Two houses had wrens and two had chickadees. We would take a peek a couple of times the kids were thrilled. They are fun to watch. Enjoy!
ShawnZ
What a cozy nest! Neat image. Did the chickadee put all that moss in there?!
beakgeek
The chickadees that nested in a box in my front yard used moss as well. I emptied it out after they had two clutches and put fresh sawdust in. I took pictures and will look for them.
WDH
This is nest #2. Most like if the box is full of moss it's a chickadee. This pair pulled all of the sawdust out and filled it with moss, all in only 4 days.
Dotch
Pretty cool WDH. Never had any in the nesting boxes here so good to know what to look for.
ShawnZ
Very cool. There must be a biological reason behind the use of moss....?They also must have to gather alot more moss when they nest in a box like this, as opposed to when they nest in a tree cavity. The tree cavitynests I've looked into after fledging was completed, seemed much smallerthan the space in a box. Must be like living in a spacious condo, comparedto a an effeciency apartment.
