Reel repair

Recommended Posts

I used to go to Anglers paradise. Works out of Trails End in spring lake park, Osborne/Hwy.65. He does all brands, if you have a house brand reel you need to bring the schematics so he gets the right part. I send mine to Bass Pro Shops in Missouri. They do a good job and let you know what needs to be fixed before doing the job to let you know how much it will cost.

If you are pretty mechanically inclined, you can find the schematics and repair stuff yourself. just something to think about. you can find a lot of schematics online. look for mike's reel repair.

I took apart an old abu 6500C and it was a little intimidating, but not too bad.

I do this myself. I've had a couple bad experience with so-called 'reel repair' services. I like my reels fully cleaned, all worn parts replaced, lubed, etc. The only way to ensure this is all done and done right is to do it yourself.

I like to take apart my reels on a clean surface covered in paper towels, and then completely clean all parts from dirt, oil, grease, debris, etc using a cotton swab and a solvent.

I then inspect all parts to find any that are overly worn, rusted, or broken.

I order my parts from Mike's Reel Repair and place the reel and all parts in a ziplock bag until I get my replacement parts. Once I have everything I need I re-lube all parts with a quality grease and oil, and assemble the reel with an exploded view diagram in front of me to make sure everything goes back together properly. Mike's Reel Repair has exploded diagrams for nearly every reel ever made available online.
