Crappies - morning, or evening?

Anytime you can get out there is a good time, but I like it when the sun is out and warming the water ... seems to make the fish more active. But the largest crappies I caught this spring were on a cool, windy, overcast day with periodic rain sprinkles. Bottom line is that I do not use temperature or cloud cover or wind as an excuse to not go fishing.

Early spring, I would say evening is your best bet. If the day has been calm, the shallows would be warmed and fish would be attracted to them.

If it's been windy and the water is well mixed, the chance of finding significantly warmer water is lower, so morning/evening probably won't matter as much.

I would say it does not really matter, but I would guess that if you are looking to find them shallow then you need to worrie more about water temps. If you are searching depths then it does not really matter. Does not really matter time of day, what does matter is getting on fish. They will bite at any time.
