fishhuntwork
Just installed 2 new Goodyear Marathons on my boat trailer. I know in the past I saw something that there should be 65 psi in them, they currently have 52 psi. How much should I inflate my tire? I have a 17 ft Crestliner Superhawk with a
FM_Mike
The PSI should be located on the tire. I would go by the manufacturers recommended pressure for safety reasons. I know of some that adjust for total weight of the boat and trailer. The important thing is to make sure the LOADED weight of the boat, motor, trailer, does not exceed the towing weight of the tires. This means that you need to take into account gas, gear, batteries, accessories. These items add up very quickly. Not following this will lead to poor tire wear and possible blow outs down the road. Capt. H (Ret.)
65 seems a little high. I have about the same size boat and at that high of a tire pressure it seems to ride rough. I usually don't go higher than 50 lbs. of pressure and I have had the tires on the boat for 4 years with a lot of miles.Good Luck.Mike
BPBOB
Put some marathons on my boat trailer this spring-50 lbs of pressure - it's posted on the sidewall.Good luck!
jmd1
Also the rim is stamped with the max pressure on the deep side of the rim. I ran into this on a ford truck that had 80 max pressure tires but the rim was was stamped for 65.
bwa
I recommend running trailer tires at the max PSI, when tires are cold, for longest tire life. Under-inflated tires build heat & heat kills tires. I suspect you have at least Load Range C tires (65 psi), I wouldn't go any lower than that.
bwa
oops, I meant 50 psi. I wouldn't go with tires that only allow max inflation any lower than 50 psi. What is the tire size?
