Thisa spot where a hole was left from a house that was eithe rpulled out or is on the bottom I went to get brancheds to mark the hole and a guy on 4wheeler almost drove into it.

PLEASE IF YOU HAVE A OPEN HOLE LIKE THIS PLEASE MARK IT

How did that first house get upside down? It seems like it's in a very awkward position from where it was originally positioned, just doesn't seem like it tipped or blew over naturally.

The wind cut that side of the ice apart first and the house tipped that way and the wind did the rest

found out with the first house they cut the holes all 4 corners like a clover leaf 3 hole touching each othe rand I think it was a 10 auger the wind was out of the NW yesterday and it wasnt banked up on that side so the wind really cut those holes open fast

And this is what happens when you put your fish house out and don't watch over it closely... High winds and open holes make a disaster. I feel bad but in a sense people need to be more watchful when conditions like these arise and they have a permanent house out

Both house are successfully removed and I'm not sure about the one with the open hole. I had to run and pic up my son from school and as I left I saw the guys pulling the camper house off the lake and the othe rone wqas just fliped over onto the ice then as I pulled in the driveway the camper style house was being pulled down the road on its way home.

Not a fun filled day for those guys for sure

It sucks and all, but I just don't feel bad for them. It's not like this warm weather snuck up on us, it's been above average almost the entire winter. A high percentage of ice fisherman haven't even attempted to venture out yet. That's gotta tell you something when you're putting a house out. Those houses soak up so much heat in the sun it's crazy! They then radiate it off into the ice, so the ice surrounding the house gets thin, then add in the wind and it is gone in no time.

My auger was sitting on the ice for about an hour the other day. When I went and grabbed it to leave it had melted into the ice nearly 1 1/2"'s! If I had left the auger there all day I couldn't imagine how far it would have sank in.

How in the world do you go about getting that second house out?

I really wish I could have stayed and videoed that because it had to be a site. all I can tell you is I was shocked to see it rolling down the ice behind a 4 wheeler at 3:30 pm

It will be a little scary going out this weekend. Hope nobody falls in any of these holes on any of the lakes. With the cold we have now they will just skim over by the weekend.

Hopefully they are all marked so a wheeler doesn't hit them. Over the night we made a 1.5" in the spear hole so they do freeze up fairly fast.

Unreal. I rolled the dice until monday. When I got home from work the ice looked pretty black and there was still one day in the high 40's left so I pulled it. Then it poured on weds. Got lucky that it didnt go in or freeze in.

I got a text Thursday morning of a pic my brother took of a house that was under on Big Lake, said there was a nice red wheel house there before but all you can see now is a red corner sticking up a little above the ice so he's not sure if it's the same one. Then at work on Thursday also a lady said her son's house went under on Big Eagle north of Big Lake and that he's waiting for the recovery team to come out. A friend of mine had a travel trailer converted into a fish house go down on Mitchell lake about 5 years ago and that cost several thousand dollars to get out. Not sure why anyone around here is leaving any houses out unattended yet with the weather we've been having this year. That wind really cuts under those houses quickly with no snow and if the sun comes out like Tuesday with those temps it doesn't take long. I'm sure there have been some very interesting phone calls to some hopefully VERY understanding wives! whistle Be safe out there.

how would you get a house out of the ice like that anyways? chainsaw to some good ice and a winch on the 4-wheeler? I don't really want to ever have to worry about it but was just wondering how you could get it out
