Leaking Gas Tank....Any Ideas?

I have a trip coming up this weekend and recently discovered that the tank on my auger leaks on it's seams.

Any ideas on good products out there that will stop the leak? Probably needs to be something that can handle the cold and gasoline.

Any thoughts?

quick fix would be( thats a hard one.) long run send the auger in to the brand you have. just my

metal or plastic ?

you will have to clean it really good with like brake clean something that has no petroleum base to it, I have my best luck with JBWeld or get a new tank

Me personally, I would spring for a new one. If it sucks in any extra air it isnt gonna run right.

The real fix is to buy a new tank. In a pinch you could try the black Permatex silicone gasket material from the auto store. Take the tank off the auger, wash it thoroughly with Dawn dish soap to remove any oil, rough up the seam with sandpaper and smear on the silicone. Let it cure for at least 24 hours before adding new fuel, then order a new tank for after your trip.

Do like Elwood said. JB weld. I have fixed many gas tanks with it (I have a lot of old junk). I used it on a old Honda 3 wheeler and it has lasted for many years of summers and winters. As long as the surface is clean that stuff sticks like crazy and gas will do nothing to it. On bigger holes I first screw in a sheet metal screw to fill the hole and JB over the top of it.

Your napa store has a product to seal leaks in metal gas tanks, don;t know if it works on plastic ones.

It's a plastic Nils tank. I called their customer service today and left them a message but no response yet.

Don;t fool around with a torch on a gas tank, it will probley BLOW UP,,,.
