Does Glow Jigs/lures work better at night time?

Do you guys think glow lures/jigs works better at night time for ice fishing? Some have said it does while others have said it makes no difference whether it glows or not since Crappies and Walleyes can see in the dark.

I think it helps, If changing from a yellow jig to a pink jig etc.. can make a difference I would think the added glow would help at night can't hurt at least.

I guess if I'm looking at a certain jig in say perch color and they have it both in regular and glow, 90% of the time ill buy the one that glows. my 2c

I'd say at times it certainly does make a difference. Sometimes you get fish in an aggressive mood when you can catch them on anything, but other times it is much the opposite. I have been on crappie bites before where if you didn't glow your jig up every few minutes they weren't interested. If I had a fish down that wouldn't take it I'd reel up, glow the jig good, get it back down and a lot of times they'd take it. So at times, I would say it definitely matters. A must have in every tackle box in my opinion.

I've had that same experience with glow jigs. If you mark a fish on the finder, they're not interested and its after dark - I always reel up and try to re-glow. Most of the time it will work.

Another use I've had for Glow jigs was for fishing Eelpout, they seem to love the glow lures!

Majority of the time while I am chasing Crappies during the low light period and at night I would say it enhances the bite quite a bit.

I have watched crappies on the vex shy away from glow, but that was few and far between times.

For me I always have a glow jig on 1 of the rods.

It seems to me like most of the time a bright glowing lure will draw fish in. It won't always get them to bite, but it gets them interested. Then you can drop down something else that they are more inclined to eat, but wouldn't have necessarily seen from 10 feet away as easily.

The glow orange demon in size 6 has always been a killer for me and crappies. That thing and a minnow head has iced more crappies than I could count. I keep at least 5 in stock as pike seem to like them too.

Glow jigs are good at catching consumers as well as fish. I always have at least one glow jig tied on. I have had fish staring at my bait and after reeling it up, charging it and dropping it down, the fish hit it while it drops. Now did they do this because it was glowing, or because what was once taken away was now dropping in front of their nose from above again? Not sure!

With glow jigs i am always concerned if my bait is glowing bright enough. So what do i do, I reel it up and charge it. I know one thing for sure, lines out of the water definately don't catch me any fish.

when night fishing do you still jig with a partial moinnow head or tail only? or at night are you guys using full live minnows?

For me personally, because you can have two lines.. I have one as a bobber or dead stick with a full minnow.. and then on my jigging rod a head or tail only.. a full minnow ruins the action of jigging lures.

Relying on my vast amateurish experiences, I can answer this with a resounding, unqualified 'maybe'. Seems like sometimes the soft glow turns on the fish, other times it may spook them a bit. I think a soft glow is better than a real bright glow.
