LMFlyin
Lake: OtatakanDates: 6/14-6/21/2010Group: BenjaminReport: The fishing was the best we've ever had in Canada and all our trips. We caught all we could eat each day in the mornings first thing. The northern were hitting better than at Fishtrap (spent the week prior at Fishtrap), but not too much action in the weed beds or lilly pads as we hoped. The facilities at Otatakan are super great. The lake has calm water to fish even on windy weather days. The water was up considerably from our last years trip to Otatakan and covered numerous areas that before were exposed and easy to see. Great fishing, great accomindation, and Great service. Good time had by ALL!!

Great pike fishing all over Austin, perch were fun too.

Boat motors are close to the end of there life cycle, new 9.9 hp would be better. Lake is alittle on the shallow side. All in all a good trip. 120 V electical was a good feature. Lots of big northerns caught, had walleyes everyday for lunch. Great cabin, fun portages, and plenty of fish in all of these lakes. Will be back next year!

This was our first trip to Dobie Lake, I will be back this August. 207 walleyes in 3 hours for two guys? That's more than a walleye every two minutes for each guy for three hours straight - not counting the time it takes for casting, baiting, taking fish off hooks, measuring fish etc...that's unreal. LMFlyin
I agree that is good fishing. Thats why people do fly in fishing trips, theres potential for fishing like that. Not every trip is like that as you can read above some weeks are better than others. Im just writing what the group wrote down on my fishing report clipboard on the flight home after there trip. Ill add alittle more info on the background on the Godfrey party. He doesnt use any bait so he wasnt wasting time baiting any hooks, and it was all catch and release so I doubt they where measuring all the fish unless the fish was worth measuring. Oddly enough the group after them the Bruening party had a tougher 4 days of fishing than the Godfrey party, caught fish but hit the mayfly hatch to toughen things up.One of todays reports (the poor Party) flew out today (there report listed above), he is a FM member and I hope he reports back too. Sorry I didnt see you Ray when you left here today as I was doing the Wright lake flight.
Jaypo
My brothers (Ray and Tim) and I hit horrible weather for the 4 days on Otatakan with the exception of Monday which was overcast and windy, but the rain subsided. We found the side of an island opposite the wind where the bait fish were pushed around each edge of the island and we parked there for 4 hours. We hit 200 walleye that afternoon. It was literally catching a fish every cast (or every minute or 2 minute stretch). Home now, hands are completely macerated with Walleye gill cuts and I can barely grasp a cup with how sore the hands are from handling so many fish.Other days were productive with us each catching 20-40 fish, but Monday was un-real!!Try it, you'll like it! Thanks Shane, Mary, and Larry for a great time and smooth landings!BTW: Next time we will not overthink it. GULP Alive 3" Emerald Shiners were almost as productive as leeches and minnows, but minnows were surefire! Also, no need for lindy rigs or anything but gumball jigs. Should have brought more as I went through a lot on the rocks!
