outdoor ran
Bear season is coming up quick. Anyone out scouting or start baiting yet?
Cooter
I have 4 buds with tags, they have been baiting some - getting some pics of shooters, no monsters.

vman59
ok here is a new one, we kind a thought someone was checking one of our bear baiting sites. A 2 weeks ago our trail camera was missing. Kind of ticked me off but went and baited Friday and low and behold our camera was back but on a different tree and the camera and chip were wiped clean. Oh I put up a note thanking whoever returned it and also informed them about the "no flash" camera I had set up on the trail the bears come in on that covers the bait site and the nice picture it took of them removing my other camera. vman59
Well the guy messing with our bait site is back, we pulled our camera's and he has been taking the log out of the hole and moving it around and putting the rocks back on it. Started this [PoorWordUsage] 10 days before season, won't do any good but going to call the warden and see if anything at all cam be done. vman59
well called the warden and he said "whether private land or public what they are doing is illegal. Do you have an idea who is doing this, any plates, vehicle description, suspect? Let me know if you do."Am i going to pursue it you bet I am.THe pic I posted earlier is from that bait site and only one of 3 big bears I had coming in during the daylight until they started screwing with my bait. klecker
That sucks you have to deal with that. Hope they put the screws to that person.

tunrevir
Vman, anybody hunt bears nearby that you know of? That bites, hopefully you can catch up to him! We have had a dozen or so bears coming in with 3 in the upper 3 hundred range over near Bruce.Tunrevir~
vman59
Not that we are aware of and we have been baiting this spot for the past 7 years without a problem. Hopefully the game warden will get him or whoever. We hunt zone C and in Barron cty its impossible to get on private to bear bait. Every time you ask they think your after their deer. Even after you explain your not after deer but bear they same the same thing, "your after my deer".
vman59
And so the hunt begins! Don't know whats worse being on stand waiting or at home waiting for the phone to ring. Well good luck to everyone and post your success.
tunrevir
Do you know the warden over there? I know Jeremy got reassigned and a new guy took over but I don't know his name. We are over in Rusk county and have alot of bears but only a few tags get drawn each year and I am still waiting after 5 years to get a tag. Good luck on your hunt!Tunrevir~
snoozebutton
Good luck with your hunt Vman, that looks like a pretty nice bear in that pic. And hope you get a handle on the creeps that are messin' with your bait.
vman59
Tunrevir ; are you in Zone C or what? Snooze thanks appreciate it and I hope so to.
tunrevir
Yes, I believe it is zone C but I'd have to double check my app to make sure. Good luck with your hunt!Tunrevir~
vman59
Thanks ; Baits are still being hit but at no set time could be anytime of the day or nite so its hard to profile any one bear.
vman59
Haven't had a bait hit since last Tuesday. Four baits and all have gone dead happens every year. Once the acorns start falling forget it. I have tried everything to keep them coming in but haven't found the right stuff yet. Kind a sucks having waited 4 yrs see all these bears on the camera and go through all the preparation of staying scent free and all to have this happen, But that's why its called hunting and not "killing". DonBo
I have HEARD that sometimes when this happens that if you collect a buch of those acorns and roast them, that the smell is enough to bring those bears back to your bait. Worth a shot i guess. Good luck!
Cooter
My bud shot one on opening evening in C that dressed at 420 and according to estimates should have a skull 22" plus possibly closer to 23". Still waiting for pics.
vman59
well well well the wheels of justice turn slowly but the scum bag has been caught. Seems a land owner adjacent to the cty forest had a couple tree stands taken and well the thief left tire tracks and a trail.
DonBo
Good to hear. Now I just hope they actually charge these guys with something.
tunrevir
Better yet, maybe they should handcuff them to the tree surrounded by donuts and coated in honey for a couple days Glad they caught up with the thugs! Tunrevir~
