Tom7227
The DNR HSOforum on liberalized fishing hasn't changed in nearly a month. It lists lakes and indicates that the liberalized fishing closes on Feb. 28. There has to be more going on than what is on this list.Anyone know why it is so out of date or where to get better info on winter killed lakes? Sonicrunch
I'm guessing that publishing a list might create a frenzy at the lakes on the list. So, in the interest of peacekeeping, they let word of mouth do it.
LakeDocktor
Word of mouth also gets people keeping more than their limits and paying huge fines!
ozzie
they probably don't add lakes to the list after that date as the lakes probably have time or at least a better chance to recover if they are getting bad at this time of the year with the replenishing of O2 in the lake
Sonicrunch
Word of mouth also gets people keeping more than their limits and paying huge fines! How do you keep more than your limit on a liberalized lake?
tsande00
How do you keep more than your limit on a liberalized lake? Because people often "hear from a buddy" that a certain lake is open to liberalized fishing when in fact it isn't. Joe Bob and his buddies show up to Lake X and fish out 4x their limit going on somebody's word.If we went by word of mouth than Pelican Lake near Monticello would be open to liberalized fishing every year when in fact it hasn't been yet. trappingaddiction
I always thought they did in because pike, bass and walleye season close the day before and don't want people going out and keeping these species after the seasons were closed because they would might try to claim that they are from a certain lake that is opened to liberlized fishing. mn_bowhunter
Contact your local fisheries office for any updates to liberalized fishing lakes. Many times though, lakes are not opened because of property owners or public complaint that some fish may make it.

You would think those jackalopes would make sure first... but there are plenty of dumb people out there who rationalize their bad behavior. On a side note: Does the DNR post something at the public access of liberalized lakes indicating the liberalized status? trappingaddiction
On a side note: Does the DNR post something at the public access of liberalized lakes indicating the liberalized status? I believe there is a sign stating that it is open to liberlized fishing and the starting and ending date of it.
Ed Carlson
Shoot the DNR or the Game and Fish an e-mail. The list gets updates as they find new waters in peril of winter kill. They should send a list to you or point you in the right direction to find the most recent list.
