Depth finder interference?

heat checker

Question

I got a new Bird 385ci which I will be putting in the boat, replacing a Lowrance X97 and a defunked H2O. Having thoughts of mounting the X97 up front. Will I get interference between the two? Not especially worried about the Bird, but if the Lowrance gives me trouble, no sense in having it in there. Any difference if the power and ducer are run close together? Thanks all.

Yes you could have intereference betseen the two if you run at the same sonar frequency. I believe your X97 operates only at 200 kHz. Your Bird can run at either 200 kHz or 83 Khz, depending on how you select the freq. If you are running only the Bird, go with either settting. If you are running the X97 at the bow, then change your Bird to the 83 kHz mode.

As far as transducer location, in some situations you could get away with running both sonars at 200 if the X97 ducer was mounted on your trolling motor and the Bird ducer on the transom (shallow water for example). Once you move deeper though you would pick up the intereference. If you ran both ducers on the transom you would have interference with dual 200 kHz at any depth.

One other option that sometimes works is to alter the ping speed on one of the units. This is really a work around however, I wouldn't rely on it.

I have two lowrance units, one in the bow with the US2 transducer on the Trolling motor. The other is on the console with the transducer on the transom. I can see interference with both running but it isn't especially bothersome.
