cole slaw and cole slaw dressing: your favorite recepie

Recommended Posts

I love coleslaw, must be that Kraut in me. Now if you're lazy like me, you can't beat Rudolph's coleslaw dressing (available in the cold dressing section) and a bag of dole shredded coleslaw, both available at any big supermarket. Rudolph's is the creamy kind and I've tried many and this is the best.

Now if you have a mandolin and get get cabbage very thin, here's the next best bet. It even works great with the Dole bagged stuffed. This is the oil/vinegar kind, alittle bit sweet and alittle bit tart. I'll credit my mom on this one.

1 med. head of shredded cabbage

1 small grated carrot

1 small green pepper, chopped

l 1/4 cup diced celery

l small diced onion

Dressing:

1 cup sugar

2 tsp.salt

1/2 cup vinegar

1 tsp, pepper

1 cup salad oil

Heat to dissolve sugar, salt & vinegar. Add pepper and oil. Chill and add all vegetables and chill.

This the Base I work with I also use it on potato salad.

combine

1/3 cup of mayo

1/3 cup sour cream

Tablespoon or more if you like it hotter of horseradish sauce

2 tbl of red wine vinegar

Fresh cracked pepper and salt to taste.

For the coleslaw

Cabbage sliced thinnly

a bunch of green onions cut thinly length ways

some pickled jalapenos diced added or chipolte for some smokiness added.

Blue cheese crumbled

Mix

Cabbage onions and peppers with sauce and crumble some blue cheese on top.

Simple and I Hardly ever make it the same but the sauce base is something I work off of. I'm not much of a sweet slaw fan so I leave the sugar out I like the tang and bite of the vinegar and Horseradish.

Im a big fan of things that have a little heat/spice and a little sweet...

I dont make slaw much because a store nearby makes great stuff and we usually only want a small amout. One thing they use in thiers is pineapple juice. Thins out the sauce well and adds a nice tad of sweet...

One restaurant I worked at, we also added pineapple juice to the mayo, vinegar, seasoning, ect...

i dont know how many times i have driven by that place. hundreds of times. i keep hearing they have the best chicken also. best chicken then they would have the best coleslaw also. i do all the cooking at home and we hardly ever go out to eat but maby i can give them a call one time on my way back from fishing and have a "to go" meal ready to bring home. good luck.

I can't remember off the top of my head a the one I have used before (my mom's recipie) but I use a bit of blue cheese in my cole slaw "sauce". Not blue cheese salad dressing, actual blue cheese, I will look for it when I get home tonight.

About 15 years ago i ate at a steakhouse near Hastings,MN , and they served the slaw dry in a paper cup with a bottle of sauce on the side, and you squeezed on the sauce as you ate, bite by bite. Since then Ive preferred it that way. Always crunchy, never runny.

Here is one my wife found, and I made a few changes to it

1 16 ounce package of Broccoli cole slaw

1 cup manderine oranges slices, drained (if in juice, rinsed too)

1 cup chopped scallions

2/3 cup of Newman's own lighten up low fat seasame ginger dressing

1/4 slivered almonds

Now the changes I have made: I use Kraft asian light salad dressing instead of the newmans stuff. I also lightly toast the almonds in a skillet. I have been known to add a few shakes of tabasco sauce in the salad dressing. I am sure red pepper flake would work just as well.....

great summer cole slaw options with pork chops

When we have one of our fishing weekends for the guys I will smoke a porkbutt a few days before and throw it into a crock pot and make up the slaw the night before so when we get back from fishing its ready to eat. Just have to add a little vinegar and red pepper flake to the pork and its ready to serve.

man that sounds awesome. i'm going to busy making sausage the next week and then i crank up the smoker to give that a shot. making venison italian for another neighbor today [got a new verticle stuffer]. then next week venison kielbasa again, swedish sausage again, venison brats with wild rice and jalapeno peppers, and finaly venison breakfast sausage with ham and onions. then i'm done with fresh for awhile and my adventure in smoked sausage begins. thanks again. good luck.

The chicken and coleslaw will be great, even if the chicken gets cold but don't order broasted fries or those waffle fries because they don't stay anywhere near crisp if u order to go. They need to work on that!!

    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
