frozen battery

I neglected my 4 wheeler battery and it is frozen Can it be brought back to life, or is it toast.

You can try and thaw it out, check to see if it has cracked casing. Sometimes it works, sometimes not.

I did that with my boat battery but i happened to remember and brought it inside about 4weeks into winter. Im hopin my battery isnt toast like yours may be...? I guess we'll find out

Thaw it out, check for leaks, then put it on a trickle charger over night, and try it.

I should check my boat batteries. I have them in my boat inside garage. I plugged them in once so far thru onboard charger. Do you think they would be ok? I didn't think they would have a chance to freeze a inside garage. First time I've had them in a garage still in the boat.

A charged battery will not freeze, you only have to worry about a discharged battery.

If it was dead chances are is wasn't all that good anyway but as said, check for cracks, thaw it out, check the fluid level, and charge it.

Interesting update: I took it is the basement shop and let it thaw, took a volt reading, 13.1???? Did not put it under any sort of test, I'll check it again after work, maybe use my vexilar to do a test on draw. I know its not much of a draw, but it's the only thing I have right now.

Accept for one thing you are probably storing them about the best way you can. The best way to store a battery is in a cold environment. So long as you keep it fully charged you have nothing to be concerned about. What's the one thing? Disconnect the batteries from possible loads so you don't have to worry about them being drawn down during storage.

I like to put them in the basement.

I'll put a trickle charge on them about this time of year. Then again right before the walleye opener.

I use one of them battery maintainers that you plug in and leave it on for the winter. They work great.

9 out of 10 a frozen battery wont come back to life cause all the cells crack and split when frozen, working at napa i see alot of this around this time people dont use there cars all winter then wonder why it wont start and think its the batterys fault.
