silverbulletguy
What kind of fish do you target most? I target more panfish so I have 2-3 med lt rods ready to go with different lures always. The heavier the rod the less sensitivity which means you might miss the light bites. Just my opinion.

NCLaker
Get the ML, seasons ending for walleye but plenty of time to target Perch on the ice.Was at Gander and tried their top end rod ($20) 28" ML. Very light and decent quality for the price. Used it on Leech couple weekends ago and was very happy with it. Guides are smaller, so if you fish on the open ice under colder conditions, they can ice up.Compared it to a Jason Mitchelle rod, JM rod was seemed a lot more tip heavy, and liked the thinner handle design of the JM.Like all GM rods, make sure the guides are strait before you buy. DuckBlind
Dick's says St. Croix that are pretty cheap. Nice combo. So does Cabelas. I would go cheap, most end up broken or down a hole.
SlavetodaBox
Dick's says St. Croix that are pretty cheap. Nice combo. So does Cabelas. I would go cheap, most end up broken or down a hole. What he said, you can always use spring bobbers or Venom bobber.
dan z
JM's rods are the bomb, I have his 26" perch 24" panfish and the 24" spring bobber. I did find a nice south bend rod I believe its a 27" ML and the rod has a tag of everest on it. nice rod for the $good luck on finding a great rod at a great price
Northlander
Robert for the areas you fish around our Duluth/Superior area you will not want Med/heavy or heavy rods.I would get a untralight for panfish, light for perchin, med light for light walleye fishin or a bobber rod and a medium for all your jigging needs. There are some great deals on rods now at Marine General and Gander Mt. Heck if ya need a jiggin rod let me know and I can hook ya up. bikeoutback
I would go cheap, most end up broken or down a hole. I agree. I buy guide series and it's been a good compromise between price and performance for me so far. Doesn't hurt as much when I break the tip on it. Even had one that I took into Gander in Duluth and I had broken the tip right at the end and they put a new tip tip on for no charge and I didn't have one of them extended warranties on my rod. pureinsanity
wait till the ice stuff goes on sale and buy both!
harvey lee
I agree Nick, things should start to go on sale very shortly. One could get 2 for about the price of one.
going4it
where is the ice stuff not on sale right now? Cant fine much at C or GM any more
robert aldrich
i think ice fishing gear never goes on sale.
Corey Bohn
The Jason Mitchell meat sticks are tough to be beat. Great sensitivity for panfish and perch, yet the backbone to handle a walleye if needed. They load up quick.
pureinsanity
when they start restocking the shelves for summer stuff they do not want to "store" the old stuff they try to liquidate!
harvey lee
I would guess the ice gear will go on sale within a month.Yes, the Mitchell line is great and the prices fit the average Joe.The Meatstick is an awesone rod for dual purpose. I have used it from perch to eyes and channel catfish.Very sensitive tip with good backbone for the larger specie. No need for a spring bobber with this rod. TravP
I've noticed most of the ice gear is gone at the big name stores. Not much for sales this year compared to last.
Northlander
i think ice fishing gear never goes on sale. Like I said Robert go check out Marine General and Gander Mt. in Duluth. Both have their ice fishing stuff on sale. Ganders got their ice rods at least 25% off now.

vman11
I picked up a UL-24, L-24 and M-28 Scheels Guide rods in Fargo Saturday evening. Regularly $40, now at $20. Everything ice fishing was on sale, there weren't many rods left. Now is the time to pick up gear for next season, unless you are the guy who needs the latest and greatest. You really can't beat the price. These rods and reel combos are pretty decent. I like the Croix's but they are spendy.
